Good news! After taking a break recently, Melbourne's Creative Women's Circle will be riding again! The group was originally formed by Dearne Herrenberg - designer of the gorgeous Mainichi jewellery range. (We interviewed Dearne back in November. If you missed it, make sure to take a look - the pics are stunning!) Tess McCabe has recently taken over the reins, and has organised the Creative Women's Circle to meet this Saturday, 4.4.2009 at the Guildford Lane Gallery from 10am - 12pm.

metremade pattern designs by Tess McCabe and Liz Roger
Tess is a graphic designer from Melbourne, and also one half of metremade pattern designs (which we also posted about way back in August 2007). Tess collaborates with textile designer Liz Roger to experiment with patterns and design without client briefs - sounds good, doesn't it?!

Speaking at the Creative Women's Circle will be fellow Australian blogger Lucy Feagins from TheDesignFiles. By day, Lucy is a props buyer and set dresser in the film industry, and TheDesignFiles is her outlet for all things creative from Melbourne and beyond. I really enjoy following Lucy's blog - she's done some fantastic interviews... a couple of my recent favourites have been with Elke Kramer and Beci Orpin. In addition to giving an insight about her work, Lucy will speak about how creating and maintaining a blog has helped her professional and inspired her creativity, and will answer questions about how creative people can better promote themselves and raise their profiles as artists online.

I know how popular the Creative Women's Circle has been in the past, so if you're interested, RSVP to Tess (email in image at top) and meet the group at:

The Creative Women's Circle is meeting again - this time on Saturday 7th June. The group gets together every two months at Port Melbourne's Mars Gallery, aiming to bring together like minded women in creative industries and small business to share common experiences, inspire, motivate and learn.
The atmosphere is casual & friendly and June's guest speaker will be Melbourne graphic designer Tess McCabe. After five years of working full time & freelancing on the side, Tess recently took the plunge & launched her own graphic design business. She will talk about her experiences making that shift from steady paycheck and regular hours, to lump-sum payments and wearing 'all the hats'! Why not come along & share your stories... Just email Dearne (before Thursday 5th June if possible)!
When: Saturday 7th June, 2008
Time: 11am - 1pm
Place: MARS Gallery Cafe Space, 418 Bay St, Port Melbourne.

The Creative Women's Circle is meeting again on Saturday June 2nd at the MARS Gallery in Port Melbourne. This time the lineup is as follows:
1. Emma Greenwood - EMERGE
Emma is trained in leather work, has worked in the custom shoe making business and is now a full time Mum to Leo and has been making accessories under the label "Emerge" for the last 2 years. Her range of belts featuring postage stamps was featured on a Michi Girl email newsletter this week. Emma will talk about being both maker and marketer (amongst other important things!).
2. Sara Bice – Queen Victoria Women's Centre
Sara is the Program Manager at the QVWC and has been responsible for the grant application and implementation of the "Crafting Cultural Connections" workshops that many of our CWC attendees are involved in. Sara will give a rundown on how the workshops are progressing and talk about the Women's centre and the other services they offer.
If you are interested in meeting fellow creatives, and hearing about/discussing their experiences, why not come along? Just email Dearne! (If you can't make it this time, the next gathering will be on August 4th.)

On the first Saturday of every second month, a group of creative girls meet at Port Melbourne's Mars Gallery. The Creative Women's Circle organise a couple of creative types to speak for about half an hour each, usually about how their business got started, their experiences during the process (good, bad or entertaining), and balancing creativity with business. Everyone then shares stories and experiences around the table about their diverse creative industries.
The atmosphere is casual & friendly and the girls meet in the cafe space of the gallery. It also costs nothing to attend, so if you are interested in meeting like-minded people in Melbourne, why not come along to the next event? Speakers will be Jacquie Byron, Editor of Get Creative magazine and a columnist for The Age and Anastasia Basil, aka DJ Cherokee. Just email Dearne!
When: Saturday 14th April, 2007 Time: 11am - 1pm
